Edward Kwasi Gbordzi: African

Gbordzi is an experienced drummer and dancer from Ghana who received his training from the University of Ghana-Legon Institute of African Studies.  For seven years, Gbordzi performed with the National Dance Company of Ghana (Ghana Dance Ensemble) and traveled with the ensemble throughout the world.  He has performed nationally for several Ghana governmental events, including performances for former President Rawlins and President Kufour.  He has taught master class workshops in African music and dance from the Volta, Accra and Ashanti regions of Ghana at the Royal African Cultural Dance in Hartford, Connecticut, several universities, community centers, schools and dance studios throughout the United States, and currently teaches at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  Gbordzi is also a member of the only African afro-pop music band—Kweku Ananse and the Sweet Vibrations—in Madison.  Gbordzi joined Call for Peace Drum & Dance Company in 2000 as a Djembe (“Talking Drum”) drummer and African dancer.  Having been with Call for Peace for four years, his dream is to bring African culture through music and dance to the doorsteps of Americans.
