Thompson graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.S. in Dance Education. She is a member of the British Association of Teachers and Dancing and the Director of the Heather Highland Dancers. Thompson has performed at numerous international events, including in Scotland at Princess Street Gardens, Edinburgh, Robert Burns Cultural Center, Alloway, Festival Folkorique International, Montreal and the International Drumming and Music Festival in Cairo, Egypt. She taught Highland Dance at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, as well as ballet and modern dance at Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Thompson passed examinations in the Royal Academy of Dance in Ballet and the British Association of Teachers of Dancing, receiving Bronze through Blue Riband with Honors and High Commendation. Currently, she serves on the Board of Directors for the Wisconsin Dance council and the Saint Andrew’s Society of Madison.
