Larson is originally from the Lac du Flambeau Indian Reservation in northern Wisconsin, and is both a national and international champion fancy shawl dancer. Her Ojibwa name is Leegwun (Spring Spirits Protect and Guide), and she has achieved first degree in the Midewin Medicine Lodge.
