On October 23, 2004, Call for Peace Drum & Dance Company
will honor President Jimmy Carter and Jeni Stepanek with the Call for Peace
Humanitarian Award. President Carter, 2002 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, and Stepanek, Muscular Dystrophy
Association vice president and mother of the late Mattie J.T. Stepanek (child
peacemaker, best-selling author and MDA’s National Goodwill Ambassador), were
unanimously elected by the Call for Peace Advisory Council to be the first
recipients of the Humanitarian Award. Call for Peace will present the award at the Edgerton Performing Arts
Center in Edgerton, Wisconsin, honoring President Carter and Stepanek for making a global
difference in their advocacy of peace, respect and nonviolence.
The Call for Peace Humanitarian Award is part of Call
for Peace Drum & Dance Company’s campaign to "Change the Face of
Fame," which began when they performed "Dancing the Dream" to
honor the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates at the Nobel Summit in Rome, Italy.
They will continue to dedicate their performances
to recognize and honor those individuals, businesses and organizations that
have made a difference in serving humanity in the areas of peace, justice,
equality and the environment. Call for
Peace's acknowledgement of such humanitarian work will also be highlighted in a
Traveling Exhibition, including educational resources and curriculum, which
will be presented to schools, museums, libraries and conferences.
The exhibit aims to create a world where we "Care
and Begin to Share," celebrating our interconnectedness and respect for
the global community.
